So…I sit here this afternoon pondering what to say in this first of what I hope are many entries into my very public “Fit Journey” blog. ~Sigh~ Where to start?
How about the beginning…let me introduce myself. I’m Sara and you can tune in and listen to me every Monday-Friday from 10 am – 3 pm. I’m also a wife, mom and….oh help me, I’m going to use the “G” word…a grandmother. Just kidding…kind of. I’m called “Lola” for a reason, lol! I’m going to celebrate my 40-somethingth birthday on June 25th. And that’s all I’m saying about that.
About five years ago, I lost a pretty good amount of weight and was exercising regularly. But I let life changes get in the way and stopped making time for myself and my health. I gained a lot of the weight back and, up until three weeks ago, hadn’t laid eyes on the inside of a gym in years. A cancer scare and subsequent surgery last fall jolted me, but it wasn’t until this spring that I realized I wasn’t doing myself any favors. I felt fat, lazy, tired all the time and in need of a change. I had grown to hate the full-length mirror, shopping turned into excursions for shoes only (love those floor mirrors!) and I was slightly out of breath just climbing a couple flights of stairs!
Then one day, Erica with AnyTime Fitness walked into the station to talk about her new accountability programs. I was intrigued because although I want to get healthier, I need someone to help me along. Because, I’ll be honest with you, I hate exercising. I always have. I’ve never felt the endorphin high they talk about (unless it’s that dizzy feeling when I go too hard), I don’t like sweating and I don’t like pain. And, if you are pushing yourself, it hurts. But with someone there to guide me…intriguing. So we talked. And that was three weeks ago. I’ve been given a new way to eat, started walking every day and heading to AnyTime Fitness twice a week for personal training. And I feel better already.
So…I’ve committed for the rest of this year to all of the above and whatever else Erica can think up for me, lol. So be watching for more posts. Or better yet, come join me and let’s get healthy together!
